At New Heart Counseling Centers in Arvada, we believe that your story deserves to be held with the utmost care, dignity, and respect. Our approach bridges compassion with clinical expertise, providing a sanctuary where your experiences are honored and your nervous system can finally find a safe place to land.
We understand that life’s heavy seasons can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck. Through specialized, trauma-responsive care, we offer a nonjudgmental, faith-sensitive environment designed to help you process painful memories, build resilience, and discover that your past does not have to define your future. True healing is a right, and we are deeply committed to breaking down financial barriers so you can access the care you deserve.
The Trauma-Informed Approach: "What Happened to You?"
At New Heart Counseling Centers, we start with a foundational truth: your story deserves to be held with the utmost care, dignity, and respect. Healing begins when you are truly seen, heard, and believed.
Trauma and life’s heavy seasons involve more than just difficult memories; they create a physiological response that can leave your nervous system feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Whether you faced a single overwhelming event or a lifetime of chronic stress, your symptoms—like anxiety, anger, or shutting down—do not mean you are broken. On the contrary, they prove that you survived.
In our Arvada sanctuary, we completely remove "being broken" from our vocabulary. Instead, we focus on helping you find a safe place to land, offering compassion and clinical expertise to help you navigate and survive life's brokenness.
Our Trauma-Informed Promise
- •A Sanctuary for Your Nervous System: We know that true healing stops when fear takes over. We intentionally create a physical and relational environment where your nervous system can finally feel regulated, secure, and at rest.
- •Honoring Your Agency: You remain the absolute expert on your own life. We collaborate with you, never on you, ensuring you always control the pace of your therapy. Because we honor your individual path, we provide a nonjudgmental, faith-sensitive environment where you decide if, when, and how spirituality enters the conversation.
- •Specialized, Gentle Care: We utilize advanced, trauma-responsive approaches—including EMDR, DBT, and CPT—to help you gently explore "stuck points" and process painful memories. Our goal is to help you navigate intense emotions and build resilience without letting the pain overwhelm you.
- •Accessible Healing: Healing is a right, not a privilege. We are deeply committed to breaking down barriers to wellness, ensuring that financial concerns do not become another burden on your shoulders as you seek care.
You Don't Have to Carry This Alone
Whatever you are carrying, please know that you don't have to carry it in silence. We are here to walk beside you, at your pace, every step of the way.
The Science of Healing: Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)
At New Heart Counseling Centers, our team of licensed professionals and interns is trained to work with the delicate complexities of the human nervous system. We believe true healing requires a holistic approach that involves both the mind and the body, which is why we utilize Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB).
While this framework relies heavily on Attachment Theory—exploring how our earliest bonds shape brain development—it goes much deeper. IPNB allows us to understand exactly how your brain, your body, and your relationships all impact your overall sense of well-being.
By weaving together neuroscience, mindfulness, and somatic (body-based) awareness, we move far beyond traditional "talk therapy." We utilize these specialized, trauma-responsive approaches to help you feel regulated and secure, helping you gently explore stuck points and create lasting neurological change.
Our Specialized & Faith-Based Modalities

We understand that the journey toward healing isn’t always a straight line, and there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to mental health. Our team of licensed professionals and interns is trained in specialized, trauma-responsive modalities designed to help you feel regulated and secure, bridging the gap between clinical expertise and human connection.
Body & Brain (Neuro-Based)
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): To help process painful memories so they no longer feel "present" or trigger an overwhelming survival response.
- Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB): To understand how your brain and relationships impact your overall sense of well-being, helping you rewire neural pathways through safe connection.
Mind & Behavior (Cognitive)
- CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy): To help you gently explore and shift the "stuck points" or beliefs—about yourself and the world—that often change after experiencing trauma.
- DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): To provide you with practical, compassionate tools for navigating intense emotions, building resilience, and finding balance in difficult moments.
- CBT: Practical, skills-based tools to identify and reshape the negative thought patterns that drive anxiety and depression.
- ACT: Moving from "fighting" your feelings to accepting them, freeing you to take action toward the life you value.
System & Holistic Support (Relational)
- Family Systems & Holistic Support: Dedicated care for individuals, couples, and families. By adjusting the "system"—patterns, boundaries, and roles—we help you navigate anxiety, depression, and the echoes of trauma.
- Person-Centered & Faith-Sensitive Therapy: Built on a foundation of Christian values, we deeply honor your individual path and agency. We offer a nonjudgmental, faith-sensitive environment where you decide if, when, and how spirituality enters the conversation.
Our Non-Profit Mission: Accessible Mental Health

Marissa & Dan Meyer founded New Heart Counseling Centers as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization because we believe that healing is a right, not a privilege. We are deeply committed to ensuring that financial concerns don’t become another burden on your shoulders.
Breaking Down Barriers:
- Diverse Insurance & Accessible Care: Unlike many private practices that are "cash only," we proudly accept Medicaid, TriCare West, and most major commercial insurance plans to ensure accessible care across the Colorado Front Range community.
- Training the Next Generation: Our dedicated team includes highly skilled licensed professionals as well as Master’s Level Interns and Candidates. This allows us to offer reduced-rate sessions—ensuring affordable care while mentoring the future leaders of our field.
- Community First: We are a dedicated community resource. We provide a safe sanctuary where clinical expertise meets genuine compassion, serving Arvada and the Front Range with integrity, dignity, and respect.
We believe that healing is a right, not a privilege. Whether you carry major commercial insurance, Medicaid, TriCare West, or need to utilize our accessible sliding scale options through our skilled interns, we have a safe place for you to land.
