Our Therapeutic Philosophy: Trauma-Informed Care
Restoring Hope. Softening Hearts.
A trauma-focused, donor-led ministry in Arvada, Colorado.
At New Heart Counseling Centers, we believe that your story deserves to be held with the utmost care, dignity, and respect. Our approach bridges genuine compassion with advanced clinical expertise, providing a sanctuary where your experiences are honored and your nervous system can finally find a safe place to land.
We understand that life’s heavy seasons can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or guarded. Through specialized, trauma-responsive care, we offer a non-judgmental, faith-sensitive environment designed to help you gently process painful memories, build resilience, and discover that your past does not have to define your future.
We believe that deep emotional and spiritual restoration should never be out of reach. Through the support of our donor-backed community, we are committed to breaking down financial barriers so you can access the compassionate care you deserve.
Our Anchor
Ezekiel 36:26 (NLT):
"And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart."
Our Vision
We believe no heart is permanently hardened by pain. Rooted in Ezekiel 36:26, our vision is to cultivate a safe, sacred space where guarded and broken hearts find the freedom to soften, heal, and become whole—accompanying individuals out of self-defense and survival, and replacing the heavy burden of stone with a tender, living, and responsive heart.
Our Guiding Principles
1. Relational Safety Before Transformation
Softness cannot be forced; it can only flourish where safety is guaranteed. We honor the "heart of stone" as a survival mechanism built in response to pain, and we prioritize creating non-judgmental, secure environments where self-defense can naturally be laid down.
2. Grace-Fueled Stewardship
We believe healing should never be limited by financial barriers. Through the radical generosity of our donor community, we build a bridge between abundant resources and profound human need—ensuring that every person, regardless of their circumstances, has access to deep, restorative care.
3. Gentle, Long-Term Accompaniment
True heart restoration is a process, not a program. We walk alongside individuals at their own pace, moving away from quick fixes or forced compliance, and leaning instead into the patient, tender work of long-term healing and renewed responsiveness.
4. Wholeness over Behavior Modification
Following Ezekiel 36:26, our focus is not on simply correcting outward actions, but on nourishing inward renewal. We attend to the whole person—mind, spirit, and emotional heart—trusting that genuine spiritual and life transformation flows naturally from a restored center.

The Trauma-Informed Approach: "What Happened to You?"
At New Heart Counseling Centers, we start with a foundational truth: your story deserves to be held with the utmost care, dignity, and respect. Healing begins when you are truly seen, heard, and believed.
Trauma and life’s heavy seasons involve more than just difficult memories; they create a physical and emotional response that can leave your nervous system feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or guarded. Whether you faced a single overwhelming event or years of chronic stress, your symptoms—like anxiety, anger, or shutting down—do not mean you are broken. They prove that you survived, building defenses to protect your heart when you needed them most.
In our Arvada sanctuary, we completely remove "being broken" from our vocabulary. Instead, we focus on helping adults find a safe place to land, offering compassion and clinical expertise to guide you out of survival and into lasting restoration.
Our Trauma-Informed Promise
- •A Sanctuary for Your Nervous System: We know that true softening and healing stop when fear takes over. We intentionally create a physical and relational environment where your nervous system can finally feel regulated, secure, and at rest.
- •Honoring Your Agency & Pace: You remain the expert on your own journey. We collaborate with you, never pushing or imposing, ensuring you always control the pace of your care. We provide a non-judgmental, safe environment where faith and spirituality are integrated only as you feel comfortable and ready.
- •Specialized, Gentle Care: We utilize advanced, trauma-responsive approaches—including EMDR, DBT, and CPT—to help you gently explore stuck points and process painful memories. Our goal is to help you navigate intense emotions and build resilience without letting past pain overwhelm your present.
- •Accessible Healing: Deep restoration should never be limited by financial barriers. Through the support of our donor-backed initiatives, we are deeply committed to breaking down financial obstacles so care remains accessible when you need it most.
You Don't Have to Carry This Alone
Whatever burden your heart is carrying, please know that you don't have to carry it in silence. We are here to walk beside you, at your pace, every step of the way.
The Science of Healing: Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)
At New Heart Counseling Centers, our team of licensed professionals and clinical interns is trained to work with the delicate complexities of the human nervous system. We believe true restoration requires a holistic approach that honors both the mind and the body, which is why we utilize Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB).
While this framework relies heavily on Attachment Theory—exploring how early relational bonds shape brain development and emotional regulation—it goes much deeper. IPNB allows us to understand exactly how your brain, your body, and your relationships interact to impact your overall sense of safety and well-being.
By weaving together neuroscience, mindfulness, and somatic (body-based) awareness, we move far beyond simple surface-level talk therapy. We utilize these specialized, trauma-responsive approaches to help your nervous system feel regulated and secure—guiding you out of survival patterns, helping you gently explore stuck points, and fostering lasting neurological restoration.
Our Specialized & Faith-Based Modalities

We understand that the journey toward healing isn’t always a straight line, and there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to mental health. Like a carefully woven quilt, our care integrates diverse, trauma-responsive modalities tailored to your unique story.
Our team of licensed professionals and clinical interns is trained in specialized approaches designed to help your nervous system feel regulated and secure—bridging the gap between clinical expertise and genuine human connection.
Body & Brain (Neuro-Based)
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): To help process painful memories so they no longer feel present or trigger an overwhelming survival response.
- Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB): To understand how your brain, body, and relationships impact your sense of well-being, helping you rewire neural pathways through relational safety.
Mind & Behavior (Cognitive)
- CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy): To help you gently explore and shift the "stuck points" or core beliefs—about yourself, safety, and the world—that often change after experiencing trauma.
- DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): To provide practical, compassionate tools for navigating intense emotions, building resilience, and finding emotional balance.
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): Practical, skills-based tools to identify and reshape the negative thought patterns that drive anxiety and depression.
- ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy): Moving from endlessly fighting your internal experiences to accepting them, freeing you to take meaningful action toward a life you value.
System & Holistic Support (Relational)
- Family Systems & Relational Support: Dedicated care for individuals, couples, and families. By adjusting relational patterns, boundaries, and roles, we help you navigate anxiety, depression, and the echoes of relational trauma.
- Person-Centered & Faith-Sensitive Therapy: Built on a foundation of Christian values, we deeply honor your individual path and agency. We offer a non-judgmental environment where you decide if, when, and how spirituality enters the conversation.
Our Non-Profit Mission: Accessible Mental Health
Marissa & Dan Meyer founded New Heart Counseling Centers as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization because we believe that deep emotional and spiritual healing should never be out of reach due to financial barriers. We are deeply committed to ensuring that financial concerns don’t become another burden on your shoulders as you seek care.
Breaking Down Financial Barriers:

- Focused Initial Access & TriCare: As we launch, we proudly accept TriCare West alongside self-pay options. We are actively building the foundation to expand our insurance partnerships across the Front Range community.
- Limited Scholarships & Reduced Rates: To ensure care remains reachable from day one, we offer limited hardship scholarships and work with Master’s-level Candidates and clinical Interns to provide reduced-rate sessions.
- Growing Toward Donor-Driven Care: We are actively expanding our donor-backed initiative—building a sustainable bridge of generosity so that financial constraints never stand in the way of deep, restorative healing.
We believe that healing should never be out of reach. Whether you utilize TriCare West, self-pay options, or benefit from our limited hardship scholarships and reduced-rate sessions through our skilled clinical interns, we have a safe place for you to land.
